Premier Cardinals 2026 Season Opening Day...
Abbotsford Cardinals open season with three wins
The Abbotsford Cardinals senior baseball started off the British Columbia Premier Baseball League on a high note with three straight wins on Saturday (March 28) and Sunday (March 29).

The Cards opened the season by hosting the UBC Thunder for a doubleheader on Saturday and exploded for five runs in both the third and sixth innings to record the 10-0 win. Starting pitcher Dylan De Meyer allowed just two hits and struck out nine over five innings to earn the victory. Abbotsford’s Aiden Fujita drove in three runs, while Fudai Nerei batted two runs in. The Cardinals took advantage of shaky pitching from UBC and collected 10 walks, with Tyson Kirton, Landon Nash and Jake Carriere all scoring two runs a piece.

The dominance continued in Saturday’s game two, with the Cardinals posting another 10-0 win over UBC. The offence came early in the second game, with Abbotsford scoring four runs in the first and second innings to cruise to the victory. Nerei had game-high three RBIs, with Nash going three-for-four from the plate. Kirton scored three runs, while Nash, Carriere and De Meyer all scored two runs apiece. Starting pitcher Trey Vanderwal threw four shutout innings, allowed two hits and struck out five to collect the win.

The Cardinals continued the strong opening weekend with a 7-3 win over the Delta Blue Jays on Sunday. Abbotsford opened up a 3-0 lead after four innings, but the Blue Jays clawed back and led 4-3 after six. However, the Cards answered back in the bottom of the sixth with four clutch runs to post the victory. Pitcher Ryder Giesbrecht was credited with the win and he struck out four in three innings. Ryder Silverton was three-for-three at the plate and also drove in three runs. Kirton added two hits and Fujita, Carriere and Silverton all had doubles.
